2.why do covalent bonds form?

Covalent bonds form between two nonmetals. Nonmetals are electronegative and need electrondensity to obtain noble gas configuration or an octet. Therefore, two nonmetals will not give up their electrons as is the case with metals. The only way for two nonmetals to bond is by sharing their electrons. A covalent bond is by definition about sharing electrons.
