Exactly how exactly did the aztecs and the american indians treat and or cure gastroesophegeal reflux disease?

I take nexium on a daily basis to treat gastroesophegeal disease that i have and I am curious to know if their is a way to treat it with natural medicine or alternative medicine so I wont have to put chemicals powders inside my body that i don't know 100% clearly what are all of the negative effects that it produces or might produce inside of my body that worries me in the long term use of nexium.
