Do server processors need to match if it supports more than one?

For example, I have a HP ProLiant ML350 Generation 3 server and it has one Intel Xeon Processor in it, but it has a slot of a second one. Do I need to match them? Whether in Ghz/FSB/Cache, etc? Even maybe an Xeon and a Pentium 4? Any help is appreciated.
